“What's a transducer, Dad?”
“ Soundstage Hi-Fi was started by my dad, who opened his first store in Edmonton, North London, in 1978. I grew up surrounded by music and hi-fi, and I quickly developed a love for both.
My earliest memories are of sitting in the back of the demo room, listening to customers' records. I would hear classics by The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Pink Floyd, David Bowie, Aretha Franklin, Otis Redding, Miles Davis, and Bob Marley. These were the sounds of my childhood. Music was magic - I would go back to school on Monday morning with these sounds running through my head.”
“After hours, I would go on deliveries and installations with my dad in his Ford Cortina estate. I didn't know it then, but I was learning the art of system building and customer service. ”Can you deliver my speakers at 9 pm this Friday evening?”…My dad never hesitated, "No problem, we'll be there!". It’s safe to say my homework suffered, but I was getting another kind of education.
Today, 45 years later, I'm proud to be carrying on my father’s legacy, and I love sharing my passion for music with others. Music has given me my friends, taught me my politics, my love of the creative process, and an appreciation of art and the clothes I wear. It’s a life passion that I’m glad to say has been inherited by my son and daughter. Music is not in the background, it’s an essential part of our lives.
Will Soundstage Hi-Fi make it to a third generation? Definitely. Maybe.”
Soundstage Hi-Fi is built around our love of music and culture, and we want you to experience your music on the deepest, emotional level possible.
